What We Believe

EPIC (Engineering Pathways to Innovation and Change) is an innovative, project-based engineering program that acts as an educational thread, weaving through each level of the high school curriculum and culminating in a capstone course. All students will have the opportunity to design, build, test and fabricate creatively inspired solutions to traditional and abstract design engineering problems. Through this model, students will be exposed to design-build competitions, engineering summer workshops, industry/university internships, university engineering courses, and local/national engineering projects in addition to their current high school curriculum and the core engineering classes. At the conclusion of the program, students will have received a one-of-a-kind educational experience leading to future successes within the disciplines of math, science, technology and engineering.

Sunny Hills High School is the only school on the west coast to provide opportunities incorporating technology in 3-D design, color theory, music synthesization, micro-aerial vehicles, biotechnology, chemical engineering, robotics and on-site/university research opportunities.

EPIC Engineering provides the highest-levels of innovation through available technology, instruction, industry partners and instructor engineering and design experiences. Introduced Fall 2012 is the newly built and furnished Engineering and Technology Building supporting two engineering labs, one science lab and a mathematics classroom.

Upon completion of the program students will have had hands-on experiences with tools found in university-level curriculum and industry labs:

  • Basic engineering tools for data collection, acquisition, analysis, product design, testing and development
  • Computer programming (Matlab, Java, and C++)
  • 2-D and 3-D Design (Inventor/SolidWorks, 3-D prototyping and CAM fabrication)
  • Data Collection, acquisition, and analysis (Vernier) with product testing and development environment (NI LabView)
  • Incorporation of technology into 3-D design, music synthesization, soft matter physics, micro-aerial vehicles, networking, robotics and endless more!
